Sociology is an academic field that studies social causes and consequences of human behavior. It investigates the structure and dynamics of society, and how people interact within these contexts. Because sociology addresses the most challenging issues of our time, it is a rapidly expanding field whose potential is increasingly emphasized in today's world. The Department of Sociology encourages students to get a better understanding of today's ever-changing societies at home and abroad, and also offers a range of research techniques that can be used to analyze social phenomena more systematically. Based on solid and democratic bonds between the faculty and students, the department paves a way for Korean society to engage more actively in the international community, and with globalized perspectives. Thus, it organizes a number of colloquiums and academic seminars, with prominent international scholars from many foreign universities.
