Thank you for visiting the home page of the Department of Sociology at Chung-Ang University. Established in 1998 as the youngest sociology department in Korea, Chung-Ang¡¯s Department of Sociology has quickly grown to become a vibrant academic community with 7 faculty members, 300 undergraduate students, and 30 graduate students. A number of remarkable accomplishments by dedicated, enthusiastic faculty members and brilliant students during our short period of existence has garnered us much attention both inside and outside academia. As a result, the department has been generously endowed by the government as well as the university. In 2006, the department was selected as a recipient of the <Brain Korea21>, a 7-year government funding award to foster research-oriented graduate programs in Korea. The department was also awarded the Best Department of Chung-Ang University prize in 2007 and in 2008, which makes it the only department to enjoy this honor two years in a row.
We have actively expanded international exchange programs with major departments of sociology in the US, Sweden, Great Britain, China, and Japan, particularly in the fields of stratification/labor, cultural studies, and gender studies, which are major areas of concentration for our department. We hope to continue to have productive dialogues with other sociology departments as well as with departments in other disciplines around the world. Welcome to Chung-Ang Department of Sociology!
